DIY Storage Boxes

I’ve spent most of Lockdown trying to keep my kid occupied and when I’m not busy with that, I’m crafting away trying to make my home more organized and beautiful. I know a lot of you are in the same boat. I’ve gotten so many messages asking how to decorate, organize and make your homes more beautiful during this time. Its a really difficult task right now, because most people don’t have the supplies or tools needed to do some of the things they would like. Don’t worry I’ve got an easy DIY for you, using some old cardboard boxes

What you will need

  • Cardboard boxes (I used 2 boxes put together to make a large box. You can use 1 box or put 2 together to make a larger box)
  • Glue gun or glue
  • Tape
  • Craft knife or scissors
  • Material (if you don’t have material, upcycle an old scarf, dress or top)

How I did it

(skip this step if you are using 1 box)

I cut off one side of the box and did the same to the second box

I glued the flaps at the bottom of the box down. I then used one of the panels I cut off and glued it to the bottom of the 2 boxes. This secured the base of the box (skip this if you’re using 1 box)

I glued the corners of the box together and taped around the box several times to secure the box,

I used material to cover the box. I applied the glue to the box and pressed down on the material to secure it. Depending of the type of glue and material you’re using you may want to adjust where you place the glue. For example hot glue on thin material will show through, so apply at the corners and where not visible

Glue and fold over the edge of the material when you get to the end. This will give you a nice finished look.

Fold over and glue the excess material at the bottom and top of the box. You can also cut a piece of material for the bottom of the box. I did not as I don’t have a lot of material available and it won’t be seen.

Inside the box I used a pillowcase folded over. You can also sew a custom bag to go inside the box.

This is an easy quick project that adds storage as well as some cuteness to your home. I hope you try it out.
